The purchase of a used stainless steel tank saves 5 tons of CO2
Every used stainless steel tank that is put into operation by our customers makes a positive contribution to maintaining our climate.
On average about 5 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) can be saved when purchasing a used tank from Behälter KG. By overhauling and reusing used tanks, reactors & process equipment, a sustainable contribution to reducing global CO2 emissions can be made.
Where do the CO2 savings in used tanks come from?
In the production of stainless steel, high emissions occur along the entire value chain - from the mining operations to the blast furnace to the steel mill. New tanks & process machines of stainless steel are therefore manufactured with extremely high energy consumption, which entails large amounts of released CO2.
Nowadays, more and more scrap metal is reprocessed in electric arc furnaces and fed back into the cycle, but this process is also associated with high energy consumption.
Used stainless steel tanks & vessels, on the other hand, are carefully dismantled by our expert team, reconditioned where necessary and, thereafter put back into service at another process plant or production site. This process is CO2 neutral except for the transport. In addition, about 5 tons of CO2 emissions are saved, which would arise in the production of a new tank. The CO2 savings are particularly high with higher-alloyed materials and additional components such as a mineral wool insulation or build-in agitators.
